New Site

I decided to start a site with a blog feet where I can post information and updates regarding the Soma Café. I am currently Skinning the site's template.

The reason I chose to use blogger as the foundation for the site is it allows me to update the blog via e-mail. I also already have a blogger account so I'm very familiar with the coding structure.

The site will be an rss fed site. If you have an rss compatible browser you can subscribe to the feed and it will keep you up to news and information.

Main Purpose: “Fellowship and Outreach”

To provide a place for
• Church members to fellowship with other believers.
• Christians to sit down and chat with non-believers.
• Facilitating small or large group discussions.
• Open Gospel messages by different pastors or lay-speakers.
• United Worship services.
• Prayer for individuals and groups.
• A place for Christian musicians and poets to share.
• An open Library and resource center.
• A needs chalk board.

Secondary Purpose: Coffee and Tea

Purposes explained:


Church members to fellowship with other believers:
Soma Café would be a place where Christians and other Christians can go to relax, dialog and just get a drink while they kick back and fellowship.

Christians to sit down and chat with non-believers:
Soma Café would be a place for Christians to invite non believers to come relax and dialog. Aiming to provide a loving environment that is less intimidating than a church or your home. A neutral environment.

Facilitating small or large group discussions:
Soma Café would be a place for facilitating small and large group discussions ranging about Who Christ is, what it means to be a Christian, doctrine, worship, movement etc.

Open Gospel messages by different pastors or lay-speakers:
Soma Café would be a place to invite people guest speakers to share messages to the community.

United Worship services:
Soma Café would be a pace to offer united and open worship services in a downtown evening setting.

Prayer for individuals and groups:
Soma Café would be a pace where individuals come to find prayer support. To have people willing to serve in a prayer ministry running certain hours of the day so that anyone can come and get prayer. Also a place for churches to come together and pray for certain things in unity.

A place for Christian musicians and poets to share:
Soma Café would be a platform for musicians and poets to come and share their music and poetry in an open mic like setting.

An open resource center and library:
This is an interesting concept to have an open resource Center and library where people could donate books, DVDs, devotional guides, Bibles, etc. Individuals and churches could either check books out for periods of time or read them in the cafe. I an interesting Idea would be to have note books to go along with certain books so that people could share their thoughts on what they have read and watched.

A needs chalk board:
Soma Café would have a needs chalk board for individuals to write down needs that they need met. Examples could range from any number of things like appliance needs, help moving in or out of a place, a medical need met, anything.

Imagine a single mother who lays her head on her pillow at night not knowing how she will make it to work, drop her kids off at daycare or make it to the grocery store after her car broke down. Yet she hears of place where she can go and place a need on chock board and a body of people called Christian filled with compassion want and even long to express love that they have by helping fix her car, or pay of a medical expense etc. Then come to find out that they do this because they get this love from Christ and not only can he meet physical needs but also wants to take on their sin and pay the un-payable debt for them.

Imagine yourself walking into the café and seeing a board filled with names and needs. As you read through the needs you see one after another of small needs that you can answer. What if you were so moved by the visible needs of your neighbor that it moves you and your family to give up tv for 6 months to afford to give that refrigerator and answer a huge need. You start praying for the family that will receive the medical coverage that they had no idea how they were going to afford.

What if we had a radical way to love our neighbor in such a way that was able to share the radical way that Christ loved us. And this is what the needs chalk board hopes to facilitate.
